Last month's Strategic Interest Group Meeting was held at Brampton Engineering. Special thanks to Bob Smith, VP of Operations at Brampton Engineering. He spoke very candidly about the issues and problems they face while trying to implement a new ERP system and integrate it with their current engineering systems.

Brampton Engineering Inc. (BE) is the world leader in the design and engineering of 5 - 11 layer blown film lines for high barrier applications in the food, medical and industrial packaging industries. BE also designs and builds customized monolayer and 3-layer lines for specialized film production.  They have experienced significant growth in the last year and have hired many new employees.  In order to help deal with this growth, BE has implemented a new ERP System and are integrating it with their engineering systems to create a global master Schedule and a single data entry point for all bills of material for the product and assembly's they make.  Brampton Engineering Hosted this session to discuss the issues/problems they have had adapting this new system as well as the problems they have encountered and their solutions.  This would have been a great session to attend If you are about to or have recently integrated a new ERP system and are experiencing issues.

After the presentation and discussion, Bob was gracious enough to provide a plant tour of their very impressive facility in Brampton.  During the tour, Bob talked about the evolution of Blown Film Coextrusion.

Until 1989, blown film coextrusion was limited to 5-layer with dies using cylindrical concentric mandrels. And while some 7-layer dies were produced using the same design criteria, they proved inadequate for producing high quality barrier structures. BE responded by designing the patented SCD® (Streamlined Coextrusion Die), an innovation that established the new 7-layer blown film market and catapulted BE internationally as the leading innovator of barrier film coextrusion technology. With the success of the SCD®, customers around the world sought out BE expertise in designing customized lines with even more layers-an achievement that has revolutionized the industry. By designing a solution to a market limitation, BE became the first company to deliver complete 8, 9, 10, and recently, 11-layer blown film systems.

I would like to thank Bob Smith and their talented team at Brampton engineering for hosting this event and providing a very informative tour.
