Every month, when the Information Technology professionals of the Barrie/Midland Consortium get together, there is no shortage of questions and discussion topics.

They started the January session with a roundtable discussion of how their respective businesses are faring heading into the new year.

The discussion, then, headed into the technology realm and covered the following topics:

  • Web developers & building web presences
  • Protective cases for iPads/Phones
  • Transitioning from Blackberries to Androids & iPhones
  • Virtualizing Windows on a Mac
  • Recovering deleted files
  • Encryption policies - sticks, phones, laptops, etc.
  • VPNs, SSH tunnels and packet sizes
  • Windows 7 - does not do black hole
  • DSL is already mildly encrypted
  • IT responsibilities
  • Upgrade cycles for computers - generally every 3 years
  • Maintenance of shop floor computers
  • Computer repairs and warrantees
  • Lotus Notes vs. SharePoint

Thanks go to MacNeil Wash Systems for hosting the session.
