Every month, when the Information Technology professionals of the Barrie/Midland Consortium get together, there is no shortage of questions and discussion topics.
They started the January session with a roundtable discussion of how their respective businesses are faring heading into the new year.
The discussion, then, headed into the technology realm and covered the following topics:
- Web developers & building web presences
- Protective cases for iPads/Phones
- Transitioning from Blackberries to Androids & iPhones
- Virtualizing Windows on a Mac
- Recovering deleted files
- Encryption policies - sticks, phones, laptops, etc.
- VPNs, SSH tunnels and packet sizes
- Windows 7 - does not do black hole
- DSL is already mildly encrypted
- IT responsibilities
- Upgrade cycles for computers - generally every 3 years
- Maintenance of shop floor computers
- Computer repairs and warrantees
- Lotus Notes vs. SharePoint
Thanks go to MacNeil Wash Systems for hosting the session.
